It's one of my favorite sayings...I learned it from Oprah many years ago. She would always say on her show that "Love is in the details." For a long time, I didn't completely understand what that meant...but as I get older, I live by this mantra. I appreciate when people do the small, unexpected things to make life just a little bit better. That is "the details." You know, the lady at the coffee shop who offers your crying kid a free cookie. The handyman who goes out of his way to offer service with a smile. Your child's teacher who is genuinely invested in their lives. People who cross their "t's" and dot their "i's." People who make this world a better place.
In this age of capitalism and corporations who want to make the most money for the least amount of effort...it's refreshing to see businesses that are having fun, loving life and exceeding expecations. Case in point:
Last weekend my daughter received a new "Life is Good" shirt, and I was pleasently suprised to find this inscription printed inside. A perfect example of "love in the details." I'm sure printing this took extra time and money...but it made me smile. And I feel more connected to the company now. I want to buy more from them. (Forgive the mediocre image...taken with a point and shoot at the lake.)
Another great example is the Celestial Seasonings company. I could stand in the supermarket for hours and read the quotes and stories on the sides of the boxes. For each box of tea, they commission an original work of art, that is both printed on the tea box and displayed in an art gallery in Colorado. I'm sure that's not the most cost-effective way to create their packaging. But it shows heart. It shows that they are invested in their customers and employees. And it truly makes all the difference in the world.
Create a good life. Focus on the details. Because people notice!
peace and popsicles,
kim
