For the past four years, I've had the honor of working with the fabulous folks at Camp ChiMer (Camp Children's Mercy.) Hosted in Excelsior Springs, MO - Camp ChiMer is one of the only camp experiences offered to children with significant kidney disease. These campers are either on dialysis, waiting for a transplant or the receipient of a transplant. No matter their personal circumstances, they would not be able to enjoy a traditional "overnight" camp experince without the dedicated staff and volunteers of Camp ChiMer. For 25 years, Dr. Warady, Children's Mercy, the National Kidney Foundation and The Dream Factory have worked to build this magical experience for a very special group of kids. Each and every camper has touched my heart with their strength, humor and tenacity.

Below you will find a handful of "beauty shots" that we captured of the girls, after their makeovers on the evening of the big dance. Many volunteers arrived to do hair and make-up and donate gowns, so that these ladies could feel like "belles of the ball." We had such a fun time...despite the blistering heat. In an effort to maintain our composure (read: no sweat stains on the ball gowns) we stayed indoors and shot the session inside the girls' cabin. No matter the location, these ladies' beauty shines through each and every photograph.
